Health officials are warning Kentucky parents of a new type of synthetic drugs and a local lawmaker is working to be sure it’s declared illegal as soon as possible.
A compound called NBOMBe has already been blamed for at least one death in Kentucky. Previous synthetic drug legislation has been able to schedule other compounds as controlled substances, but State Representative John Tilley of Hopkinsville says House Bill 8 needs to pass this year to schedule the new product.
The bill also makes tweaks to previous legislation to add more penalties to those selling synthetic drugs to children.
Kentucky State Police has described the compound as “deadly stuff” and “scary.”
Like other synthetic drugs, the compound can cause paranoia, fear, panic and many other detrimental health effects.
