The weekly Legislative Update program begins airing again this weekend on Lite 98.7 and three members of the local delegation to the Kentucky General Assembly focused a majority of the first program’s time on pension reform.

Senate Bill 2 passed the upper chamber Thursday afternoon and only makes major changes to the benefits for new hires into the state employee system. Senator Whitney Westerfield says the bill isn’t a quick fix, but it is a band aid to stop the bleeding.

Governor Steve Beshear has said pension reform should be coupled with tax code reform, but Representative John Tilley says he doesn’t believe that will slow down lawmakers from getting Senate Bill 2 or some amended form of it passed this session.

Ninth District Representative Myron Dossett noted the Commonwealth’s credit rating is affected by the pension system that is 30 billion dollars in the hole by conservative estimates.

You can hear the entire program Sunday morning at 9am on “Don’t Be Afraid to Say It” on Lite 98.7.
