Former Pennyrile Electric GM passes away

A man who spent nearly four decades at Pennyrile Rural Electric in various capacities, including General Manager, passed away over the weekend at the age of 88.

John Bell Mason retired as General Manager of Pennyrile Electric in 1986 after spending 37 years at the utility.

He became the General Manager in 1977 and spent the last nine years of his career at Pennyrile in that capacity. Current Pennyrile General Manager Eston Glover says Mason was a people person who related well to his employees.

Mason was able to impact the cooperative in nearly every way possible in his different jobs and Glover says he moved Pennyrile in the right direction the whole time.

Mason also served on the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Public Power Association Board for the last two years of his career at Pennyrile. Funeral Services are set for Thursday morning at 10 O’clock at Hughart and Beard Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 until 7pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
