| Local lawmakers to talk re-districting |
|
A group of local state lawmakers will be headed to Frankfort tomorrow for a meeting that could have some impact on how re-districting will go in the Kentucky General Assembly this year. Ninth District State Representative Myron Dossett says the Western Kentucky Caucus in the house will convene and talk over proposals for new boundaries.
Representative Dossett says very little input was allowed from most lawmakers last year when the bills passed in both chambers were deemed unconstitutional by the Kentucky Supreme Court.
In its decision, the Supreme Court laid out specific parameters for what is and what is not acceptable for re-districting and Dossett says that should make the process easier this time around.
Governor Steve Beshear has said he would prefer the matter to be taken up in a special session, but it appears lawmakers will at least try to get it done during the regular 30-day session that resumes next week. ** 01/28/2013/am |
