Elkton Police officer arrested on drug charges

An Elkton Police officer was arrested last night for allegedly attempting to buy drugs while on-duty.

Kentucky State Police say 44-year old Russell “Rusty” Morris is in the Muhlenberg County Jail on charges of official misconduct, trafficking in a controlled substance and possession of synthetic drugs. The charges are enhanced because of the presence of his weapon.

A news release says KSP received a tip that Morris was attempting to purchase narcotics while on duty and performed a delivery to him as part of an undercover operation. Morris was lodged in the Muhlenberg County Jail.

It’s not the first time Morris has been in trouble. He left the Hopkinsville Police Department in 2008 after being arrested for DUI on West 7th Street.
