| Crews ready to pre-treat roads |
|
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says it will be prepared for any winter weather that comes our way. A news release from Highway Department Spokesperson Keith Todd says crews plan to pre-treat area highways for a threat of winter weather Thursday night and Friday morning. Pre-treating involves spraying a brine solution on roadways that dries to leave a fine powder of salt. The substance works to melt the frozen precipitation as it makes contact with the roadway. Todd says temperatures have to be above 22 degrees for the pre-treating to work and that pre-treating isn’t effective when rain falls before snow or ice. Those parameters should be able to be met for the upcoming event. ** 01/23/2013/am |
