Agriculture Commissioner James Comer today launched two new programs that are geared towards helping Kentucky military veterans find jobs in agriculture.
Officials say Kentucky Proud Jobs for Vets connects veterans looking for employment with farmers who need labor, while Homegrown by Heroes is a new logo that identifies farm products produced by Kentucky veterans.
Officials add that both programs will operate out of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the unemployment rate among post-9/11 veterans nationwide was 10.8 percent in December 2012, compared with an overall unemployment rate of 7.8 percent.
Commissioner Comer stated he is working to expand the Homegrown by Heroes concept nationwide.
