An organization that has helped law enforcement officials take a bite out of crime for nearly three decades is in need of continued community support.

Since it’s inception in 1985, the Hopkinsville-Christian County Crime Stoppers program has paid out thousands of dollars to anonymous tipsters for their help in cleaning up the streets from criminal activity.

In 1985, Crime Stoppers paid $1,050 to anonymous tipsters as compared to $10,300 last year.

Hopkinsville-Christian County Crime Stoppers Coordinator, Officer Paul Ray says the program operates solely on donations from the public and from area businesses.

Officer Ray explains why public assistance is needed now more than ever.

The local Crime Stoppers received 261 tips and assisted law enforcement officials in arresting 76 individuals last year.

Since its inception, Crime Stoppers has paid out 1,195 rewards and over $220,000 in reward money.
