Woman accused of driving impaired with unrestrained children

A Hopkinsville woman was arrested Saturday for allegedly driving impaired with three unrestrained children in her vehicle.

The citations say 24-year old Megan Smith of Hopkinsville was pulled over on Fort Campbell Boulevard around 8:15pm when Deputy Eddie Frye saw her cross the center line and allegedly run a red light.

Deputy Frye writes he smelled a strong odor coming from the vehicle and that a K-9 detected the presence of drugs. A search of the car allegedly turned up marijuana.

Smith was arrested and charged with DUI, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and several traffic offenses. She was also charged with wanton endangerment for allegedly allowing three small children to ride in the vehicle without child restraint devices.

A charge of promoting contraband was tacked on at the jail when staff allegedly found a bag of marijuana on her person.
