Hopkins County Coal LLC recently received a state award for restoring land that has been mined to a natural or economically usable purpose.
Commissioner of the Department for Natural Resources, Steve Hohmann, presented a the 2012 Commissioner’s Award of Excellence in Reclamation to Hopkins County Coal, LLC for outstanding reclamation work located in Hopkins County near Madisonville.
Officials say Hopkins County Coal successfully established a diverse 318-acre post-mining land use that includes hay land and pastures, a fish and wildlife habitat, permanent open water impoundments, stream restoration and several seasonal shallow water depressions.
Officials say the site was nominated by Division of Mine Reclamation and Enforcement Madisonville Regional Office inspection personnel.
In further recognition of the Commissioner’s award, Representative Ben Waide, of Madisonville, presented a Kentucky House of Representatives Citation to the company. ** (01/17/2013/MF)
