Preliminary statistics released by Kentucky State Police today indicate that eight people died in eight separate crashes on Kentucky’s roadways from Monday, January 7th through Sunday.

State Police say single-fatality motor vehicle crashes occurred in Jefferson, Meade, Morgan and Webster Counties. The victim in Jefferson County was not wearing a seat belt and the suspected use of alcohol was involved in the Morgan County crash.

State Police reported that there were motorcycle crash fatalities in Fayette and Scott Counties and the Fayette County crash involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Police say a fatal wreck in Simpson County was the result of a crash that involved an animal and a pedestrian was killed in McCreary County.

There were no fatal wrecks reported in Christian, Trigg, Todd and Muhlenberg Counties during this time.

Through Sunday, preliminary statistics indicate that 15 people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways during 2013, which is nine less than what was reported for this time period last year.
