Hopkinsville Police are investigating another scam report from recent days.
The report says a local 68-year old woman was in an online relationship on mate1.com with a man identifying himself as James Kay. The man asked for the woman’s address to send her a birthday present and then began obtaining more personal information from her.
The man soon began asking her to receive expensive electronics at her home by UPS and to pick them up at the store, only to mail them to an address in South Africa.
The victim eventually became suspicious and contacted HPD, who determined fraudulent credit cards had been taken out in her name to purchase the 700 dollars worth of merchandise.
Police remind residents that if someone you don’t know asks you to mail something overseas, it’s likely a scam. It’s also likely a scam if someone you don’t well is asking for your personal information such as a social security number.
