A top ranking Fort Campbell official was the guest speaker for today’s Pennyrile Area Development District Board of Directors meeting. Fort Campbell Garrison Commander, Colonel David Dellinger spoke to board members about sequestration, which continues to be one of the hottest political issues in Washington. The Budget Control Act of 2011, established a 12 member Committee, otherwise known as a Super Committee, on deficit reduction and over the next 10 years, the Department of Defense’s total budget will see a $500 billion in reduction. Colonel Dellinger commented that it’s unclear what departments under the D-O-D will be hit the hardest and how the looming budget cut will impact military installations across the nation, including the 101st Airborne Division. The local post’s total budget last year was $4.7 billion, with $1.8 billion going towards soldier pay, $386 million for various construction projects and $295 million going towards civilian pay. ** |
