CCSO makes arrest in March robbery incident

The suspect accused of nearly running over a West 7th Street Dollar General Store employee last spring after fleeing the store with stolen merchandise was arrested in another state Sunday.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office went to Columbus, Georgia to serve a warrant for first degree robbery and fleeing from police charges against 42-year old Antonio Hamilton of Jan Drive, Hopkinsville.

The warrant alleges that Hamilton left the Dollar General on March 6th with a cart full of unpaid for merchandise. When confronted outside, Hamilton allegedly accelerated backward and nearly struck the clerk.

Hopkinsville Police Officers Adam Smith and Jason Sears were in the parking lot in an unmarked cruiser and gave chase, but Hamilton did not stop. His car was located again at the Pennyrile Apartments, but he was able to elude police until this weekend.

Hamilton remains in the Christian County Jail.
