Individuals seeking shelter have another place to turn to for assistance.
Reverend Emmanuel Luther of Freeman Chapel and Hopkinsville Mayor Dan Kemp made a joint announcement that beginning tomorrow, Freeman Chapel, located at 137 South Virginia Street will open its basement for daytime shelter services from 9 am through 5pm daily.
Shelter services will include restroom facilities, a television, and refreshments like hot coffee, juice, and continental snacks.
Reverend Luther stated members of his congregation look forward to working to meet the needs of a changing community.
The local Salvation Army, another program partner, will also continue to offer meals at noon and evening shelter services at its facilities on East Seventh Street.
Officials are anticipating that the Freeman Chapel’s daytime shelter will run during the cold weather season and wrap up in the spring.
Mayor Kemp remarked that he is appreciative that officials at Freeman Chapel have stepped up to fill a need in the community.
