Another member of Christian County’s contingent in the General Assembly is expected to chair a powerful committee in Frankfort for the next two years.

Fifteenth District State Representative Brent Yonts says Speaker Greg Stumbo has notified him of his intention to nominate Yonts as Chairman of the House State Government Committee.

Representative Yonts says he’s looking forward to those duties and says it’s a big responsibility.

Two of the major issues facing lawmakers this year are re-districting and pension reform and Representative Yonts says both will come before the committee before going to the House floor.

Yonts, who represents Muhlenberg and portions of Christian and Hopkins County, will replace former western Kentucky legislator Mike Cherry as chairman.
