Chosen by his fellow lawmakers to lead the 2013 and 2014 General Assembly, House Speaker Greg Stumbo, a Democrat from Prestonsburg, took the oath of office today and was once again sworn in as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
This is Speaker Stumbo’s third term as leader of the 100 member chamber and is the first and only Eastern Kentuckian to lead the House of Representatives.
Speaker Stumbo was quoted as saying he was honored that his fellow legislators chose him to lead the chamber and that he was humbled by the trust they have placed in him.
Speaker Stumbo first came to Frankfort in 1980 and rose to become the youngest House Majority Floor Leader in the nation, a position he held for eighteen years.
A native of Floyd County, Speaker Stumbo also held statewide elected office as Kentucky’s 49th Attorney General from 2003 through 2007..
