The 2013 short session of the Kentucky General Assembly will open Tuesday with four days of administrative work.

Eighth District State Representative John Tilley of Hopkinsville says the first day will be choosing leadership and committee chairs.

The four days this week is an opportunity to build relationships and to talk some of the more important issues over with other lawmakers, according to Tilley, who says there is a lot of work to get done.

Representative Tilley says he’d like to see the structure of short sessions changed where many of the administrative duties that take up so much time could be done before the session officially begins.

Lawmakers are expected to tackle re-districting, pension reform, tax reform and there could be changes in the so-called “pill mill bill.” Legislators will not be in session again until next month after this week’s four-day administrative period.
