|Senator McConnell talks about spending on national news programs|
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky is calling on President Obama to take the lead in dealing with the country's debt.
Appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press," the Republican said the country’s spending problems continue to get worse with time.
Senator McConnell ruled out raising any more taxes and said the focus must now be on spending cuts.
The Senator says Congress shouldn't have to take the lead in spending cuts.
He refused to commit on whether he would allow a government shutdown if an agreement can't be reached on spending.
