Preliminary statistics released by Kentucky State Police this week indicate that seven people died in seven separate crashes on Kentucky’s roadways from Wednesday, December 26th, 2012 through Tuesday, January 1st, 2013. State Police say all seven fatalities occurred prior to the start of the New Year’s holiday reporting period, which started at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28th and ended at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, January 1st, 2013. Single fatality, motor vehicle crashes occurred in each of the following counties: Garrard, Grant, Jefferson, Jessamine, Pike and Warren Counties with the victim in Jefferson County not wearing a seat belt and alcohol was involved. A single fatality, motorcycle crash occurred in Laurel County. As of 8:00 a.m. today, there were no reported fatalities during the New Year’s holiday period. In 2011, three people died in two separate crashes on Kentucky roadways during the New Year’s holiday period. Through December 31st preliminary statistics indicate that 737 people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways during 2012, which is 17 more than in 2011. |
