State lawmakers preview session at Kiwanis

DOSSET1

The local delegation to the General Assembly spoke at the Hopkinsville Kiwanis Club this afternoon and talked about some of the big items on the agenda for the upcoming session.

Third District State Senator-Elect Whitney Westerfield addressed tax reform that will almost certainly be addressed in some fashion and said he wants to see spending cuts part of any solution that includes additional revenues.

Ninth District State Representative Myron Dossett said re-districting has to be addressed as soon as possible so lawmakers and constituents will know where the boundaries will lie.

Eighth District State Representative John Tilley agreed with Dossett, saying he disagrees with those who say the job can be postponed.

Also speaking was outgoing State Seantor Joey Pendleton, who lost to Westerfield in the election. Senator Pendleton says he isn’t going completely away, as he will still lobby for issues he is passionate about.

The first day of the 30-day short session is set for January 8th.
