Unemployment down in seven Pennyrile counties

The unemployment rate was down in seven of the nine Pennyrile counties last month, including a significant drop in Christian County.

The Office of Employment and Training says the jobless rate in Christian County in November was 8.4 percent, down from 9.1 in October and down from 9.4 one year ago.

Unemployment in Todd County fell fourth tenths of a percentage point from 7.6 to 7.2 percent. Caldwell County had the lowest jobless rate in the Pennyrile at 6.4 percent, which was down a tenth from October. Hopkins County was close behind at 6.6 percent.

Trigg County was the only local county to see an increase in its jobless rate, as it went up a tenth of a point to 7.6 percent. Muhlenberg County’s jobless rate fell two tenths to 8.2 percent.

Magoffin County recorded the state’s highest unemployment rate — 15.1 percent. It was followed by Fulton County at 15 percent. Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the Commonwealth at 5.4 percent.
