A Clarksville man was arrested on child abuse charges Thursday night for allegedly hitting a small child in the face with a cup.

The report from Clarksville Police says 22-year old Wilfredo Valcarcel of Northeast Drive was putting his ex-girlfriend’s four year old boy to bed when the woman heard what sounded like a slap and the child started crying harder than it had been before.

The woman said she went into the bedroom and found her son with a bloody lip and a red left cheek. The mother said he admitted to throwing and hitting the boy with a cup, though he told police he didn’t mean for the cup to strike the child.

Valcarcel was arrested and charged with child abuse and was booked into the Montgomery County Jail.
