A new Hopkinsville City Council was sworn in last night, which features two new members.
Replacing Ward 1 City Council Woman Cornelia Bell is former constable Thomas Grant, while Buddy Oglesby replaces Peggy Rogers Everett in Ward 7. Ms. Bell had only served a few months after being appointed to the position following the death of longtime councilman Fred Atkins. She chose not to run for election in November.
Before the meeting began, Hopkinsville Mayor Dan Kemp remembered the victims of the Newtown Elementary School mass shooting and longtime WHOP News Director Jim Love with a moment of silence.
J.D. Chaney with the Kentucky League of Cities also spoke and presented 8th District State Representative John Tilley with the organization’s Big Hitter Award for his role in important drug legislation during the most recent session. It was the final meeting of the year for Hopkinsville City Council.
