 (Willie Cole II)
Clarksville Police say a man is now behind bars for kidnapping and theft Monday night. Around 7:26 p.m. officers responded to a kidnapping at Dollar General Market located at 1945 Madison Street.
26-year old Sharonda Belvin of the city told police she went inside the store to pickup some medicine and left her 7-year old son alone in the back seat of her Chrysler 300 with the vehicle running and the doors unlocked.
Ms. Belvin also told police that when she came out of the store a few minutes later, her son and vehicle were gone and that’s when she called 911.
Shortly after the incident, 7-year old boy was found by a woman outside a gas station and was able to give officers a detailed description of his kidnapper.
Working on the tip, officers combed the area and located a man, 20-year old Willie Cole II of the city, who closely matched the description of the suspect.
During questioning, Cole admitted to taking the vehicle because he needed the bail money for previous charges.
The 7-year old was also able to positively identify Cole as the person who took him and the car.
Police say the vehicle was returned to Belvin and that despite the ordeal, the child was in good spirits, unharmed, and was returned to his mother.
Willie Cole II is charged with theft of property and kidnapping and is being held at the Montgomery County Jail without bond. **
