Details released on four-fatality wreck in Trigg Co.

Trigg County is certainly all too familiar with tragic multi-fatality wrecks involving young people and it happened again Saturday morning when three teenagers and an adult were killed in an accident involving a van and a tractor on Rockcastle Road.

The incident happened shortly before 8am just north of U.S. 68-80, according to Kentucky State Police, which says 30 year old David Shoaf, 18 year old Kimberly Shafer, 17 year old Lindsey Sholar, and 19 year old Dalton McDougall of Cadiz all died from their injuries.

Preliminary investigation determined Shoaf was northbound in a van on Rockcastle when he struck a southbound tractor operated by 58-year old Carl Calhoun of Cadiz. Police say Calhoun went uninjured.

The tree teens killed were passengers in Shoaf’s van, as was 18-year old Brenden Breen of Cadiz, who was treated at Trigg County Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. KSP says Breen was the only person in the van wearing a seat belt. The investigation into the incident continues and the road was shut down for several hours while the scene was re-constructed.

Ms. Sholar’s father, John Wayne Sholar, died in a wreck in Christian County in June of 2003.

Anyone who was old enough at the time will remember the events of December 15^th, 1993 when Dale Garner, Jeremy Gordon, David Lawrence, Jesse Lawrence, Patric Perry, Joey Rogers and Steven Wallace were all killed in a head-on collision on U.S. 68-80 in Trigg County as they were on their way from their part-time job at Knight and Hale Game Calls to Hilltop Market. This coming Saturday will mark the 19^th anniversary of that tragic evening.
