|
The emphasis on regionalism in the southern Pennyrile was highlighted in a historic news conference this morning when the South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council was officially announced. The council includes Christian and Todd County initially, but could eventually expand to include other counties. Executive Director Mitch Robinson will recruit for both counties now, while the Todd County Industrial Foundation will take on more of a support role similar to the Christian County Industrial Foundation. Todd Industrial Foundation Chairman Todd Mansfield said it was a great day for both counties.
Christian County Judge-Executive Steve Tribble agreed with Mansfield, saying he hopes to see more counties included in the future.
Todd County Judge-Executive Daryl Greenfield also spoke at the news conference, which was held at the Hopkinsville-Christian County Chamber of Commerce Center. Several speakers also brought up the Todd County Career Path Institute, which would be crucial to economic development in that county if it comes to fruition as expected. Pennnyrile Rural Electric General Manager Eston Glover was the master of ceremonies and said the merger should benefit everyone involved.
