Christian Co. Sheriff's Office investigating Crofton arson

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent arson in Crofton from early Wednesday morning.

A newspaper deliveryman noticed a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer on fire at 138 West Mill Street, Crofton around 2am Wednesday and 59-year old Jon Byrum of that address was able to get the blaze put out with a garden hose.

The vehicle was parked near the home and Deputy Brandon Hawkins writes on the report that it would have likely burned the vehicle and residence had the carrier not seen the fire.

Police found a broken glass bottle in the passenger side of the vehicle that had not been there when it was parked the day before. The fire had apparently started where the bottle had landed and police believe someone threw it with the intention of burning the vehicle, house or both.

The investigation continues and no suspects are listed on the report.
