| HFD urging safety when using real trees |
|
While more and more Americans have transitioned to an artificial Christmas tree over time, some safety tips are being offered to those who continue to put up a real tree. Hopkinsville Fire Department Inspector Cecelia Cloos says one major difference when using a real tree is that it shouldn’t be left up for more than two weeks as it will become dry.
Inspector Cloos urges residents to be sure they keep their tree watered while it’s up to prevent a fire hazard.
National fire prevention officials estimate about 240 homes burn each year and 13 people die in fires started by real Christmas trees. ** |
