U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky believes the country can avoid the so-called “fiscal cliff” without tax increases and hopes President Obama and House democrats will be willing to find a good compromise.

Speaking on the Senate floor, Senator McConnell laid out part of his reasoning for keeping the Bush tax cuts in place for everyone.

Senator McConnell acknowledged the President’s position on wanting tax hikes for some could gain more traction, but urged compromise to not hurt economic growth.

The President has been meeting with congressional leaders from both sides of the isle in hopes of reaching a compromise before automatic tax increases and painful budget cuts kick in—also known as falling off the “fiscal cliff.”
