He may not agree with all of his leaders’ positions on every issue, but State Senator-Elect Whitney Westerfield says he supports the republicans elected to leadership in the upper chamber Tuesday.
The new senate president will almost certainly be Senator Robert Stivers of Manchester and Westerfield says Stivers has the advantage of being a fresh face at the top when the short session opens in January.
Senator Damon Thayer, who has joined Governor Steve Beshear in wanting to put casino gaming on the ballot, was chosen as majority floor leader. Westerfield says he’ll never change his opposition to more gaming in Kentucky, but he still agrees with Senator Thayer on most issues.
Senator Katie Stine kept the president pro tem position without opposition.
