Republicans choose next state senate president

THAYER
Stivers

The man who has served as the Kentucky State Senate majority leader for the last three years was selected as the next senate president in yesterday’s Republican Caucus meeting.

Senator Robert Stivers of Manchester will be the party’s choice after the 23 republicans and independent Senator Bob Leeper met yesterday for about three hours, according to the Herald Leader.

President pro tem Katie Stine will keep her position and expanded gaming proponent Senator Damon Thayer will step in as the new majority floor leader.
Asked about his work with Governor Steve Beshear on expanded gaming legislation, Senator Thayer told the paper he didn’t see the issue going away any time soon.

Longtime senate president David Williams had to be replaced after he accepted a circuit judge appointment from the governor.
