A Fort Campbell soldier is now behind bars after Clarksville Police say he lied about being a victim of an armed robbery.

Police say 14 officers were tied up for over an hour yesterday in response to a robbery, which turned out to be a lie.

Police say around 4 p.m. officers were positioned throughout the city to catch an alleged armed robber after 25-year old Keith Ferrero of Fort Campbell called 911 and told the dispatcher that a man had just taken his vehicle and was headed toward town on Fort Campbell Boulevard.

Officers across the city started setting up at potential travel routes to intercept the stolen vehicle and around 4:30 pm, the vehicle was spotted by officers on Providence Boulevard near Beech Street. 

Since the vehicle was reported as stolen and the suspect potentially had a gun, high risk traffic stop procedures were used when the vehicle was pulled over on Beech Street. 

Police say the suspect was taken in custody and transported to the detective division to be interviewed and the course of the interview, the robbery story conveyed by Ferrero quickly unraveled.

Ferrero admitted to police he had actually loaned his car to a friend in exchange for money and the friend was only supposed to have the vehicle for a half hour and return it to him, but when an hour had passed and the vehicle had not been returned, Ferrero became concerned and concocted the robbery story.

Ferrero was charged with false report and was booked into the Montgomery County Jail.
