Grant money could fund programs for struggling youth

The efforts of the grant-funded Christian County Youth Equality Coalition may be enhanced by a new effort, if another grant comes through.

Ashley Johnson of the Pennyrile Area Development District says a 50-thousand dollars Community Deliquency Prevention grant has been applied for—which would fund efforts to keep students in school who have a tendency to struggle or to be truant.

Ms. Johnson says organizing existing agencies to work together combined with some new efforts could make a difference in communities and in schools where some students need to be made to feel special.

The county must match half of the grant, if approved, but it will come through in-kind contributions such as volunteered time and resources instead of cash.
