Clarksville Police were forced to shoot and kill a man last night after a nearly 3-hour long standoff.
A news release from CPD says officers responded to a Pond Apple Road home around 5:30 after a 911 call was received about a 46-year old man threatening to kill himself and his wife or anyone who tried to enter the home.
Patrol officers arrived and set up a perimeter around the residence to safeguard the neighborhood. The owner of the house was known by police to have a large number of weapons inside the residence.
Negotiators attempted to talk to the man, but were only able to make intermittent contact that eventually ended all together when the suspect refused to communicate. Officers could hear shots being fired inside the home and the man eventually came outside and fired more shots, causing a danger to police and anyone else outdoors.
That’s when police shot the suspect around 8:15pm, killing him on the scene. The name of the man has not been released, pending family notification. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.
