Ward 1 City Council candidates debate

A three-way race for the Ward 1 Hopkinsville City Council seat is featured today in our ongoing coverage of this November’s General Election.

Wendell Green, Carolsue Daigre and Thomas Grant debated this week at the League of Women Voters Political Forum.

When asked if he supports the smoking ban ordinance, Green said he could go along with some type of ordinance, as long as it wasn’t too strict.

Ms. Daigre said she doesn’t like going to restaurants where there is smoking, but she believes the issue should be on the ballot.

Grant cited health statistics that show the dangers of second hand smoking in saying he supports the smoking ban ordinance that has already passed on first reading.

Green says he is concerned about the safety of walkers on the proposed rails to trails project, while Ms. Daigre said she supports the trail as long as grant funding comes through and Grant says he fully supports the project.

The debates resume this evening at the mall at 6pm when the District One and Two candidates for the Christian County School Board face off, followed by the candidates for 15th District State Representative—incumbent Brent Yonts and challenger Doctor Marshall Prunty.
