| UPDATE: Eight year old girl shot in drive-by shooting on Durrett Avenue |
|
A young girl is recovering at Vanderbilt University Medical Center after being injured in a drive by shooting on Durrett Avenue last night. The incident happened at 1413 Durrett Avenue just after 7pm, when 59-year old Louvenia Wilford said she was in the home and heard gunshots outside. She felt something hit her in the back, which police believe could have been a bullet that ricocheted, though she only suffered a very minor injury. Shot in the abdomen was an 8-year old girl at the home, who sustained a severe injury that required her to be transferred from Jennie Stuart Medical Center to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Interviewed shortly after the incident Hopkinsville Police Chief Guy Howie said police didn’t believe the wound to be life-threatening. The police report from Officer Tommy Hoffman says a third woman was in the residence, but she was not hit by any of the bullets. Chief Howie said witnesses gave conflicting descriptions of a vehicle possibly involved, and officers were following up on leads through the night. ** 10/11/2012/am
