October 7th-13th proclaimed as Fire Prevention Week

Governor Steve Beshear has proclaimed October 7th through the 13th as Fire Prevention Week in Kentucky.

The National Fire Protection Association sponsors Fire Prevention Week each year and this year’s theme is Have 2 Ways Out.

State Fire Marshal and Director of the Division of Fire Prevention, William Swope is encouraging Kentucky families to map out a plan for escaping a home fire and to map out two emergency exits and practice the plan with their families.

Swope also emphasizes the importance of having working smoke detectors in your home or apartment and to check the smoke detectors to ensure they are working properly on a regular basis.

|In addition to the upcoming Fire Prevention Week, officials with the Division of Forestry are reminding citizens that Fall Fire Hazard Season is in effect from now until Dec. 15th, and that during this time, outdoor burning is illegal between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. in or within 150 feet of any woodland or brushland.
