A woman was cited into court on Bryan Street yesterday for allegedly forcing a child to live in filthy conditions.

Officers were dispatched to an apartment at 309 Bryan just before 2 yesterday afternoon to settle a dispute between a landlord and tenant. The tenant—37-year old Dawn Boganwright of Hopkinsville—had custody of a child and Officer Robert Sibal asked to see inside the residence.

Officer Sibal writes on the citation that the floor was covered in animal waste and urine, trash and cigarette butts. He writes that the smell of ammonia, mold and mildew was so strong that he couldn’t stay inside long enough at one time to take all of the photos he needed.

Neighbors told police they heard the child coughing through the night. The child was removed from Boganwright’s home by social workers and she was cited into court on endangering the welfare of a minor charges.
