A representative of the Kentucky Department for Homeland Security spoke at this morning’s quarterly meeting of the Pennyrile Regional Citizen Corps Council.

Deputy Executive Director Aaron Horner is responsible for administering the grant that funds the local council and talked about some of the state’s efforts in getting people more prepared for disasters.

Horner said the percentage of people concerned about terrorism has dropped drastically since September 11th, 2001. He says urging residents to prepare for natural disasters will have them prepared for whatever may come.

He said the department continues to plan for events such as the ice storm from a few years ago and hopes Kentuckians are doing the same.

Horner also emphasized the importance of communication following a disaster, saying it’s important for families to have a designated meeting area in case phone lines aren’t working.
