Governor comes to Christian County for 68-80 speed limit announcment

Governor Steve Beshear was in Christian County Tuesday afternoon and made the new speed limit on U.S. 68-80 official.

Transportation Cabinet officials are urging motorists to still follow current signage until all of the new speed limit signs are installed in the next day or two, but Governor Beshear laid out where the new speed limit applies and where it won’t while speaking at the event at Eastview Baptist Church.



The 65 mile-per hour speed limit will extend all the way to Graves County once the completion is the 68-80 corridor is finished, according to Governor Beshear.


Congressman Ed Whitfield spoke at the event, as did State Senator Joey Pendleton and Representatives Myron Dossett, John Tilley and Martha Jane King. Everyone involved praised the Southern Pennyrile Chamber Alliance for working together to bring the project to fruition. Governor Beshear said counties working together in the way that Todd, Trigg and Christian are will continue to get more accomplished.

Everyone who spoke emphasized the importance of GPS systems routing motorists through 68 from I-65 to I-24 once the new speed limit gets in computer syems.
