A second grade teacher at Martin Luther King Elementary School was surprised this morning when a local office supply store presented her with over a thousand dollars worth of school supplies.

The only teacher in western Kentucky to receive a thousand dollars worth of items from Office Max was Carol Bugg at MLK Elementary. Ms. Bugg has taught for seven years and described the experience as rewarding, while thanking everyone involved in choosing her.

MLK Principal Sarah Newman nominated Ms. Bugg for the honor and said she makes learning fun for her students.

Office Max Manager Steve Gray presented the items to Ms. Bugg and said the store wants to alleviate some of the expenses teachers often pay for out of their own pockets.

The honor came as a surprise to Ms. Bugg, who had a class full of students when the media, central office personnel and several Office Max employees walked into her room shortly after 10am.
