A Fort Campbell soldier this week received high honors for his gallantry in action while deployed in Afghanistan.
Staff Sergeant Danny Beard was awarded the Bronze medal for his outstanding service as a senior medic while deployed in Afghanistan with the 4th Brigade Combat Team from August 2010 to August 2011.
Staff Sergeant Beard was also awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received in combat. While part of a convoy delivering supplies, Beard was riding in a vehicle that was hit by an IED, and as a result he suffered injuries to his back and shoulder and sustained a traumatic brain injury.
101st Airborne Division Deputy Commanding General for Support, Brigadier General Jeffrey Colt awarded Beard the prestigious awards Thursday at the Fort Campbell Warrior Transition Battalion.
