The Clarksville Police Department responded to a wreck early this morning, near the Red River Bridge.
Police say around 7 a.m. 60-year old Jerry Swift was driving north in his pickup and just crossed the Red River Bridge when he blacked out, crossed the southbound lanes of Wilma Rudolph, went over a curb and crashed into a rock wall.
Following the wreck, 33-year old Billy Dinsmore, who was driving northbound on Wilma Rudolph in the left lane was attempting to slow down, when 55-year old Joel Thomas, who was entering the center left turn lane at Old Trenton Road crashed into the back of his Chevy.
Police say Thomas was distracted by the previous wreck and did not notice Dinsmore’s vehicle slow down.
As a result of the wrecks, traffic flow was disrupted for about an hour and police cited Thomas for failure to use reasonable car.
