Congressman Ed Whitfield announced today the U.S. Department of Transportation will be awarding the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet a $9 million grant to repair Eggners Ferry Bridge.
Congressman Whitfield says this announcement is important news for people in the First District of Kentucky.
Congressman Whitfield then went onto say Eggners Ferry Bridge is a vitally important roadway in the region, and this will help to restore this bridge in a timely manner and relieve the inconveniences caused by the January accident.
The grant was authorized under the Emergency Relief program within the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highways Administration.
The $9 million grant will help fund repairs needed to restore essential traffic, minimize the extent of damage and protect the remaining structure.
A main span on the bridge collapsed after a large cargo vessel crashed into the decades old structure on January 26th.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
