Clarksville police investigated a murder on Nolen Rd. Saturday morning, with an arrest made a few hours later.
A news release from Public Information Officer Jim Knoll says police were called to building 6 at 1523 Nolen just after midnight to the report of shots fired.
Officers reportedly found several shell casings outside and multiple bullet holes in the door. A deceased female, whom police are not identifying, was found in a bathtub inside with gunshot wounds. Police say the victim was in her early 20’s.
Witnesses told police the victim was last seen attempting to get away from a man whom is believed to have been her boyfriend—21-year old Nicholas Rico Durant of Clarksville. The witness said he or she ran to get help when the victim was seen fleeing from Durant and heard shots fired.
Durant then allegedly fled the scene to a friend’s house, where he told that he had been in an argument with the victim and that he shot her. He then allegedly fled the area, with police having a vehicle description of a white Dodge Charger and a possible direction of travel.
North Carolina Highway Patrol spotted Durant around 10am and arrested him near the Interstate 40-Interstate 26 interchange without incident. He is in the Buncombe County Detention Facility and is awaiting extradition back to Montgomery County on criminal homicide charges.
The victim’s name will be released once all family has been notified.
