| Todd Co. offers temporary help on back taxes |
|
Todd County government is getting more aggressive in its collection of net profit and payroll taxes, but is giving anyone who owes an old debt a chance to make it good now. Todd Fiscal Court passed a resolution Friday morning giving anyone owing back taxes until April 15th to make that payment without any penalties or interest. Judge-Executive Darryl Greenfield says those taxes are for anyone owning or running a business or farm in Todd County. The one-percent tax isn’t anything new in Todd County, but the judge says many would-be-payers either have not been informed or have chosen not to pay over the last decade. He says county government will come looking for the money after April 15th. Fiscal Court also announced it will begin assessing payroll taxes on temporary migrant workers this year, after learning that they are not exempt as they had previously believed. In other business, court approved Sheriff Joey Johnson’s fourth quarter report and final settlement and approved the hiring of Jeff Rogers as a solid waste truck driver. ** 02/24/2012/am |
