Word has come that former Christian County School system Superintendent Dr. Arthur Gene “Art” Kupisch has passed away. Dr. Kupisch reportedly died Tuesday at his home in Marion, according to his obituary in the Paducah Sun. He served as the superintendent in Christian County in the early 1980’s, and also spent time as superintendent of schools in two Indiana districts. Prior to his retirement, Dr. Kupisch was serving as assistant superintendent in the Crittenden County School System. Dr. Kupisch wasn’t solely defined by his career in education, as he served in the U.S. Navy Aviation Reconnaissance before he went to college. He would go on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University, his master’s from Indiana University at Terre Haute and a doctorate in education from Indiana University at Bloomington. Dr. Kupisch is survived by his wife Linda, son Koy, a step-daughter and two step-sons—including former Hopkinsville-Christian County Economic Development Director Lee Conrad. Memorial services for Dr. Kupisch will be held at a later date in Mattoon, Illinois. Myers Funeral Home in Marion is in charge of arrangements. ** 02/22/2012/am |
