Ky. House Speaker Greg Stumbo files False Claims Act

Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo has filed legislation to reportedly target fraud across state government.
According to Speaker Stumbo, his False Claims Act will help root out fraud and reduce the state’s deficit and would give whistleblowers financial incentives to come forward if state tax dollars are being mishandled.
Under the Speaker’s bill, individuals who are found guilty would be responsible to pay back up to three times the amount they had fraudulently billed the state and whistleblowers may be eligible to receive 15 to 30 percent of the recovered monies as a reward for their service.
Since 1986, more than $25 billion has reportedly been recovered by similar False Claims Acts.
