A Hopkinsville woman was booked into the Christian County Jail early this morning for allegedly forging checks that belonged to her mother-in-law that passed away. 41-year old Leslie Barber is charged with 2nd degree forgery, theft by deception and theft of mail matter. According to Barber’s arrest warrant, she continued to pick up and cash checks that were sent to her mother-in-law from the Veteran’s Administration, despite her death on October 30th, 2011. According to police, Barber would sign the signature of her mother-in-law on the checks and signed her signature as the power of attorney. The 41-year old is accused of unlawfully receiving monthly checks in the amount of $290 about 17 times. **
