A Hopkinsville woman was booked into the Christian County Jail early this morning for allegedly forging checks that belonged to her mother-in-law that passed away.
41-year old Leslie Barber is charged with 2^nd degree forgery, theft by deception and theft of mail matter.
According to Barber’s arrest warrant, she continued to pick up and cash checks that were sent to her mother-in-law from the Veteran’s Administration, despite her death on October 30^th, 2011.
According to police, Barber would sign the signature of her mother-in-law on the checks and signed her signature as the power of attorney.
The 41-year old is accused of unlawfully receiving monthly checks in the amount of $290 about 17 times.
